I agree with the term "Home, sweet home." It is sweet to be home. I loved my holiday in Australia but nothing beats home. It was great to just be able to sleep on my bed at night! My first REAL good sleep in a long time (albeit it could also be that I haven't slept much beforehand either...with only 1 hr sporadically spread out throughout my flights...meaning only 1 hr within 37-38 hrs since our flights were about 24 hrs including all the stopovers plus I ended up going out to watch fireworks at night when we arrived in Vancouver. haha).
Cairns was pretty good tho I think I liked other places better. It could be that I was just tired by then and so I didn't enjoy everything as much. What better way to start our time in Cairns with a little adventure. We missed our flight in Perth b/c someone (I shall keep that person annonymous =p) said that Australia is so laid back that it's ok to check in half hour before the flight. Of course we listened to that person...and by the time we got to the counter, they were like oh, your flight is already boarding. You can't check in anymore. SICK was my first thought. Are we gonna be stranded in Perth? That would make the certain someone very happy. haha. So we talked with the ticketing agent and he found us a flight to Brisbane in which we could transfer to another flight to Cairns. This actually all worked out better since we wouldn't arrive in Cairns until 9 am instead of our original flight at 4 am. Plus then we got fed breakfast on the plane! So that took care of us having to find food ;) Qantas is awesome...they like to feed us all the time! On our flight to Brisbane it was like close to midnight. They fed us supper at 12:30am! Had fish and rice. Not bad food I must admit.
Anyways, we did quite a bit in Cairns. We explored a bit, went snorkelling and scuba diving at the Great Barrier Reef, and we took the skyrail and train to Kuranda which was pretty cool (lotsa rainforest stuff!). I guess it was a pretty good way to end our Australia trip. Now time to sort out all the pics we took...that's gonna take forever!
